NYCTBVE has gone through several generations, in terms of graphics and realism. It is definitely interesting to see how we have progressed from our beginnings. Routes must look like, or better than that generation to fall under it. These definitions, however, do not take into account the quality and precision of the work, as the route can be accurate, and use photo-realistic textures, but fail to have the quality appeal of clean looks, and side-by-side photo comparison. This can be seen with oversized/wrongly measured textures, visual glitches, etc. This term was defined by ipaclansite to grade routes based on their graphical appeal after he released the southbound G.

==First Generation==

The first generation of NYCTBVE was very simple in terms of graphics, stations weren't detailed, and used very little objects. Every station would look the same, and most of the time you would depend on BVE to tell you where you were. Distances were also inaccurate, but there were limitations during this time, and this was the best we had. First Generation routes are no longer made.
One of the most detailed first generation routes is the 7 and the L, which drew the line, and brought us into the second generation of NYCTBVE routes.

Routes on BVEStation which fall under first generation:
E Manhattan bound
S Grand Central Shuttle
G Queensbound
S Franklin Avenue Shuttle
7 Line
L Line

These routes are from the 2001-2004 era.

==Second Generation==

The second generation of NYCTBVE obviously got more sophisticated, with new objects, and accurate track distances, and curves. During this time, Phantom909 joined and was the leading force of this new advancement. Second Generation NYCTBVE routes, featured more details, including locations of stairs, benches, trash bins, maps, and unique station walls for each station. Most of our routes fall into the second generation category. Most newer generation routes, usually begin as a second generation as a skeleton, which is then detailed into one of the higher generation level routes.

S Franklin Avenue Shuttle

These routes are from the 2004-2007 Era.

==Third Generation==

The third generation of NYCTBVE gets even more advanced, with digitally redrawn photo textures, along with the accuracy of second generation routes. They may contain real photo textures, but contain more digitally redrawn ones than photos. These routes are significantly more detailed, and visual enhancements compared to its predecessors. These routes usually dont have the visuals of photo-textured routes, but they are close to their photo counterparts. They can be placed side by side to a photo and look comparable. Routes in this generation may have derived from a skeleton, created during the second generation age.

Routes that will be third generation:
6 Line (border line)

These routes are from the 2007-2009 Era.

==Fourth Generation==

The fourth generation of NYCTBVE builds upon the third generation, using photo-textures, or photo-drawing hybrids. The hybrids usually contain a mixture of both photo-textures, and digitally redrawn textures. Mostly, they contain more photo-textures than redrawn textures. This takes the third generation to the next level of visual enhancements, and look alot more visually appealing. Routes in this generation may have derived from a skeleton, created during the second generation age. Routes in this category are comparable to their actual photo counterparts like the third generation routes. Routes in this generation are preferable due to their flexibility between photo and drawn textures. They can also feature use of textures from elsewhere and reworked into the route.

V Line

Routes that will be 4th generation:
R Line
4 Line
Updated C Line
E Line (Both Manhattan/Queens Bound)
F Line

These routes are from 2008-Present.

==Four and a halfth Generation==

4.5th generation routes will feature up to 85%+ photo textures, objects, and structures are to be accurately depicted, and the route may also finally feature working safety systems. The tracks, tunnels and columns should also be replaced with photo-realistic ones, as seen in some of the London Underground routes. Anything under this category would classify as a fifth generation route.
The Rockaway Shuttle, a collaborative BVEStation development is planned to be a 4.5th generation route. The project is still in its conceptual planning stages, and no actual development has been started yet.

==Fifth Generation==

Routes that are almost incomprehensible compared to their realistic photo counterparts. An example of a route meeting this definition is the Birmingham Cross-City South in development on RailSimRoutes [1]
It is not possible for a fictional route to be fifth generation unless it has elements that can be compared to actual photos or locations.

==Fifth and a halfth Genration==

This mainly applies for trains made for OpenBVE that include exterior/interior views. It follows the fifth generation standards, except that the model is more detailed.

==How do I install BVE 2, BVE 4 or OpenBVE?==

You can find out how to install OpenBVE here [4] Please make sure to read all the instructions on the OpenBVE website, and download the required dependencies.

Make sure you have put it in the Program Files (x86) instead of the x64. Dependancies that openBVE requires need the (x86) directory in order to work properly

==This train that I downloaded from BVEStation doesn't work on BVE 4 or OpenBVE, What can I do?==

The train you downloaded is likely not compatible with BVE 4 or OpenBVE and will not work, no matter what. However newer versions of that train that is incompatible is very likely to be in development, please check the forums for development on those trains.

==When will this route be released?==

When will any route be released is something we as developers do not know. We work on the routes at our own free time, and even with our free time, we do have lives, going to school or work. Therefore we cant give you any release dates, as they are likely incorrect. What can be said however, typically fictional routes can be completed anywhere from 2 months to a year, while non-fictional routes take anywhere from 6 months to 3 years. Obviously this is an average and should not be used to judge when a route is released.

==I get a train not found error what do I do?==

A train not found error usually means you did not install the required train to run the route, or the train when installed, installed into the incorrect directory. Check to make sure that the train installed into the BVE/Train directory or that you downloaded the right train. Another solution would be to use another train, which you can change in the route file, or run the route file through BVE Route Randomizer.

==I get a out of bounds, out of range, subscript out of range, or runtime error, What do I do?==

This typically means that you installed the route, but did not install the correct dependencies. Routes on BVEStation require that you also installed other routes, and a missing file could lead to this error and cause BVE to crash. To fix this problem, go back to the downloads page, read the description and see what the dependencies are, most of the time however they are already listed at the bottom at the links so simply download and run all those files.

==Why are there so many files to download?==

BVEStation's routes depend on each other to run, and therefore there are many files to download. This is used to save space, and make it easier for the users to download routes. However there is a proposal to do away with this dependency system as newer routes come along, with new files phasing out older ones, and today's amount of users with broadband connections.

==My route lags! Help!!!==

High quality routes, mostly the newer routes, will inevitably lag, because of their detailed textures, high polygon objects, and high object counts. To fix this problem, you can try lowering the draw distance of the route, and lowering the resolution of the screen. If available you can download a low quality version of the route, which should help the lag problem.

==Whats this BVE Multiplayer thing?==

BVEStation has its own form of "imaginary" BVE Multiplayer through Teamspeak, in which users can connect and communicate through Voice in real-time. This means players can pretend to operate along with each other with radio transmissions. However nothing is affected in game, so in a way it is a form of pseudo-multiplayer. You will need the Teamspeak client, a microphone and speakers if you wish to participate.

==Does BVE work on Vista?==

==How do I get exterior views on OpenBVE?==

Exterior views on Vista aren't natively included when you download trains on BVEStation (exceptions are the R46B and a few others) but you can put them in yourself, visit [5] For more information on how to do that.

==How do I get the train to start moving? What are the controls of BVE?==

To get the train moving you should set the gear to Forward, then power the accelerators. Controls on how to accomplish this can be found here. Some trains require that you start the safety systems before the train starts, enable them before setting the gears and powering the train.

==I want to make a route!! How do I do it?==

If you want to learn to make a route you have several options, you can use the Route Builder program, or you can hand write it in Notepad (which is recommended by many developers) Tutorials are scattered all over BVEStation, and periodically BVEStation runs programs in which we teach route building. For train builders, we do that too albeit less often. If you run into trouble during your route development, you are free to contact us with your questions on development. If you want to work on a non-fictional route, and become a big time route developer, you are asked to contact Phantom909 and he will assist you from there.

==I want to make some changes on this, can I do it?==

You can make changes on your own private discretion, however, you are NOT allowed to display or show anybody your changes, without proper permission from the author. If you wish to release a change, please contact the author and they will respond back on whether you can or not.

==I have a question thats not put here, Where can I ask?==

The BVEStation Forums is the best place to ask your question, I will say that the BVEStation Forum may seem intimidating at times, so if you feel intimidated, you can ask your question privately through a personal message to an administrator, and we'll help you the best way we can. If we feel we cannot help you, but believe there is another member on the site that can, we will ask that you post your question on the forum. However we recommend that you post straight to the forum so you don't have to wait the administrators.

You can contribute to the BVEStation Wiki by registering for an account on the Wiki.

Contribution can vary from photos and recorded sounds, up to full-blown objects. All content MUST BE YOUR OWN CONTENT, unless permission of the copyrighted file was granted.
